Canteen Day REAL Kids USJ 12 – Nov 2007
REAL Kids USJ 12 organized a Canteen Day for all Pre-3 students as part of the curriculum on the ‘usage of currency’.
In the kindergarten snacks are normally provided by the school. Children need not bring money to purchase food. We realized that many children when they enter into Primary 1, they encounter problems when buying food such as feeling afraid to approach the food seller, don’t know what to buy, or do not know how much change to get back.
The objective is therefore to get our students to familiarize themselves on purchasing food items from the school canteen proper when enrolled in Primary 1 the following year.
The class teacher help the students in making mock currency in class. Students then used the mock currency to purchase food items from our ‘canteen’.
The “cash” denomination was as follows: 50 cents, 20 cents and 10 cents
Food items sold:
Food Type |
Price |
Mee Hoon / Sausage Bun
Milo / Syrup drinks / Muffin
|
30 cents |
Banana cake / Wafer / Packet Chip |
20 cents |
Sweets / Jelly |
10 cents |
Pre-1 and Pre-2 Students
The Pre-1 and Pre-2 students also actively participated on purchasing food from the canteen, with the help of the class teacher. No ‘real’ cash was used for any transaction.
We want to thank all parents who supported this canteen day. We encourage parents to continuously educate their children on the usage of currency. |
