McDonald's Field Trips - March 2006

Objective:

Experiential learning. Fun filled and educational!

Who went:

About 3,000 children from 21 CEC centres visited some 6 selected McDonald's outlets. The planning of such trips was a tremendous challenge for the teachers [320 of them]. The students were systematically guided through the outlets. For most of us, this represents a life-time experience.

What they learned:

  • How a typical outlet was run, starting from the front counter to the kitchen.
  • Front Counter: How food was ordered, paid and delivered at the counter.
  • Kitchen: How various food were prepared and packed.
  • Chiller Room: Children were given a tour to look at huge freezers and frozen food.
  • Practicals: a few children had a hand in preparing burgers! Real fun!

Take-home benefits:

  • Apart from fun, the children were given treats of light snacks.
  • Children really understood what went behind the counter, much more than the average adult would know.
  • With this experience, the children will definitely add a good measure of confidence in their social rounds with their peers [who are not from CEC].
  • They were offered to join the Ronald McDonald’s Kids Club membership at a discounted fee.
