Annual Sports Day: R.E.A.L Kids Petaling Jaya Zone Sports Day
Date: 23rd May 2010
On the 23rd of May 2010 - REAL Kids TTDI, Kg. Tunku, and Gasing Indah got together at Sekolah Kebangsaan Kg. Tunku to participate in the Annual Sports Day 2010. On this beautiful sunny morning, the event officially opened with a march past followed by the singing of ‘Negaraku’ and the REAL Kids song.
The ‘Sports Pledge’ was then read by a Kg. Tunku REAL Kids student and this led to the welcome speech by emcee of the day, Ms. Mala.
Shortly after, children from all three schools proceeded to present the following performances:
- Pom-pom dance by Gasing Indah
- Taekwando by Kg Tunku, and
- Gym presentations by TTDI

The sports programme, with the theme ‘Go Green Floral’, began with the youngest class of students (PNP) aged 2 ½ years. Each child was asked to run, pick flowers from the hoops and arrange them in a basket. This activity displayed Logical–Mathematical Intelligence (or Number/Reasoning Smart) by understanding the ‘logical’ arrangement of the flowers and to gather according to numbers.
Next were the PRE-1 kids (aged 4½ years) who were assigned the ‘Kangaroo Hop & Bunga Manggar’ game. Kangaroo Hop is a very exciting team activity whereby each child must hop to the hoops, pick a carrot, put it in the pouch of their aprons, run back and drop the carrot into the basket. The final team member will then have to repeat the above task but also carry the basket of carrots and bring it back to the finishing line. The PRE-1 children certainly exercised their Bodily –Kinesthetic intelligence (or ‘Body Smart’) here very well, by physically balancing their movements.
‘Bunga Manggar’ meanwhile, is an activity where the children had to pierce individual sticks of colourful, glittery flowers into a sponge to form a decorative bundle of flowers known as ‘Bunga Manggar’. Once complete, the teams joyously paraded their creations to spread the message of unity and happiness.
Following this were the PRE-2 children aged 5 years, who played a game of fetching water. This body-balancing endeavour involved carrying water carefully without spilling, while walking in line in a sort of afternoon stroll. There was also a kids fashion show and ‘bake-me-a-cake’ activity. Displayed throughout these fun games was Bodily-Kinesthetic Intelligence.Parents and teachers had their fair share of sports as well, and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Finally for the PRE-3 students there were games of ‘Hopscotch’, ‘Wishy-Washy’ and ‘Be My Guest’.
‘Wishy-Washy’ was perhaps the most interesting. The children first lined up in groups, and various items were placed in front of them. These include a laundry basket of towels, a washing board with a brush, a pail of water, a basket of clothes pegs and standing clotheslines. Each child was instructed to take turns sitting in front of the board, scrub the towel with a brush 3 times and run to the pail of water to rinse it. They then had to run and hang the towel on the clothesline using the pegs. This process is repeated but the last child from each group had to run UNDER the clothesline and rush to the finishing line as fast as they could.
Overall, the Annual Sports Day was a success and everyone had great fun. The parents too had a good time snapping photos and capturing videos of their children in action. The fine weather also contributed to everything going as planned and on time. To those who were kind enough to lend a helping hand, we would like to express our utmost gratitude to each and every one of you.
